My fascination with the outdoors and photography began in high school when I joined a backpacking club and started taking photography courses at the local community college. It was still in the day of film photography and learning how to develop images in a darkroom. I dragged my camera on many backpacking adventures in Southern California and continued to study photography for a few years. I had aspirations of becoming a professional photographer, but life chose a different path for me and I ended up putting my camera down. After moving to Humboldt County in 2008, I fell in love with the land and the wildlife that surrounds us. I started mountain biking, hiking, sea kayaking, and exploring Humboldt County so I created my instagram profile @Lostcoastexplr to document it all. What started as a simple curiosity for observing wildlife and our incredible landscapes quickly evolved into an obsession with documenting their stories. Armed with fieldcraft, patience, and a deep respect for natural habitats, I have spent untold hours waiting for a single, fleeting second of light or for a magical glimpse of an otter or the elusive kingfisher. Nothing brings me greater joy than being able to share those moments with you, whether it's through social media, my online gallery, or through the purchase of one of my images.
