Why Go Explr

"If I don't change something, I'm not going to live to see grandchildren!"

Why Go Explr?

In May of 2017 I was involved in a motorcycle accident, I was lucky, it could have ended up a lot worse! The day started out as a fun Saturday ride with friends. About 15 miles into the ride, I was coming down a set of S turns, along the Avenue of the Giants and ended up a little wide to the right on the last turn. In hindsight, I should have probably accelerated, but before I could do anything I was on the ground. The next thing I remember was some guy with an Australian accent saying, "get up buddy, we got to get you out of the road!" As I was trying to come to terms with what had just happened and doing a mental self evaluation as to how hurt I probably was, I thought, "that's strange, who do I know that has an Australian accent?? Luckily, the Avenue of the Giants isn't heavily traveled, and most tourists take their time as they drive by the towering Redwood groves along the route. The most painful part of the whole experience was the the hour long ambulance ride to the hospital as I was tossed and turned by every corner, I finally asked it the driver could just slow down! End the end, I ended up with multiple broken ribs, a broken clavicle, and a punctured lung. It really wasn't until weeks after, when I was at my Orthopedic Physician's appointment that I noticed the scale said I was 221 lbs. For years, my weight fluctuated, I think at one point I was close to 230 lbs, I would go on a diet and do some physical activity and be happy with getting around the 200 lb. mark. For years this was my cycle. But, something clicked after that appointment, "If I don't change something, I'm not going to live to see my grandchildren!" Of course even with that realization it took me another year to actually start to make a change! So why GoExplr? Well for me its a way to stay accountable to keeping on track with improving my health as well as an opportunity to hopefully inspire others to do the same. Getting fit can and should be fun, bet you didn't know that blood, sweat, and tears could feel so good, but it does! So get up off the couch, shut off the internet and go explorer the world around you. Start with a walk, or a bike ride and see where it takes you, you might just like it!
